Millcreek Rotarians! Participate in Santa Sacks: Bring these items to our Holiday Party

Hi all:

I suggest we participate in this year's Santa Sacks Program, a service project of the Granite (School District) Education Foundation. School administrators and faculty refer students in need to this program. It's similar to Sub-for-Santa, but it also provides the basics too.

There's overlap between the refugees we like to serve and the students who can benefit from this great annual program. They would really appreciate our help. Maybe we can gather some things for the program and bring them to the Holiday Party at Judy's in a couple weeks.

The Foundation has had a successful year gathering supplies and volunteers, but here's what they still need:

Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Coloring Books (from pre-K through 2nd Grade)
Socks (from ages 4 to 11)
Cash Donations
New Kid-friendly Books. It's short notice, but these folks might be good candidates for dictionaries in the coming years.

You can see that the needs are very basic. There are many families whose kids go to Granite Schools who struggle throughout the year. In fact, we work with some of them at the Sunnyvale Center. This is one more opportunity for us to continue our service to this community.

I will bring a big box. If we can gather the goods, unwrapped, at Judy's meeting, I will deliver them to the Granite Warehouse the next day.

In the meantime, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Best

Thanks so much, wonderful Millcreek Rotarian Shannon Tilly, for hosting club members at your home on Thursday, October 24 for enchiladas and pot luck. What a great guy, and what a great Rotary Club - building homes for the poorest of the poor in Nicaragua.

2013 Wine into Water great memories & great thanks!

Our second annual wine tasting event to raise funds this year for clean water projects in Cambodia was bigger and even better than last year's benefit. Once again, club members pitched in to bring everything including an incredible assortment of delicious appetizers.

We want to thank Pago restaurant, Wasatch Academy of Wines, Kiler Grove & Castle Creek wineries, and High West Distillery for their participation in the tastings this year. Emily Graham and her accompanist provided beautiful guitar and vocals for our listening enjoyment. Assistant District Governor Derick Loyola pitched in as one of our sommeliers. And we cannot thank enough Club President Laurie Summers Pisani for letting us use her gorgeous backyard for the party!

As result of this group effort, this fundraiser is held at no cost to our club. Therefore 100% of the $5,500 contributed at the event will go directly toward international water projects and the local service efforts of our club.

Enjoy the photos, and see you next year!
