Mothers Day Celebration at the House of Hope

We celebrated our friends at the House of Hope for Mother's Day and received this beautiful note:

Mother’s Day at House of Hope

May 28th, 2019
Mother’s Day can be a challenging day for many of our women. Some are learning to parent a newborn, some are working hard to repair broken trust, and some do not have custody of their children. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be a special day to celebrate.
We were so fortunate to have Rotary Club of Millcreek provided gifts for every woman at House of Hope for the second year in a row! The gifts included items like shampoo and loofahs to help our women feeling beautiful and encourage them to take time for self-care.
As an extra special treat, Jennie Lloyd and friends brought a lovely Mother’s Day breakfast to all our women in residential facilities. This will be five years that Mrs. Lloyd and her friends have been providing Mother’s Day breakfast for our women. This wonderful treat gives our moms a break from having to prepare breakfast and allows them to enjoy a wonderful morning.
Thank you to everyone who made Mother’s Day special this year

ii.      Dec 7th, 7:00 a.m. Operation Santa at the Fort Union Target.  Come help kids from poor families as they find each other gifts for the holiday season!  Each child is provided with vouchers to pay for the gifts.  The kids are escorted by local Police and Fire Fighters, making it an exciting arrival scene!  Note:  our club donated $1000 to help sponsor this event.
3.       Wine into Water – This year’s event grossed a little over $14,000 and netted ~$8,500 (significantly less than last year).  Having the event on a weekday was a contributor to reduced attendance.   We discussed going back to a Friday evening for next year’s event.  But we learned that Tracy Aviary now charges significantly more for weekends than weekdays.  This raised the suggestion that we should at least consider finding an alternative venue.  One possibility: the Baldwin Radio Factory.  We also talked about having other beverages available because not everyone drinks wine.  Perhaps we should serve craft beers and have a soda bar.  Let’s plan to talk some more about these ideas in future business meetings.
4.       Reports on International Service Trips – Dave Veenstra presented slides on the Nepal trip, and Frank presented slides on the Cambodia trip.  Both Dave and Frank expressed their appreciation for Rotary’s help in making those trips successful.  They and the Youthlinc participants will be forever changed by their experiences!
