Meeting Minutes - April 10, 2014

ROTARY CLUB OF MILLCREEK SPRINGING INTO SPRING WITH LOTS OF ACTIVITIES

This meeting was a planning meeting for the next several months.  Please mark your calendars for these great events.

  • APRIL 25 - SOCIAL AND SERVICE AT DANNY'S HOUSE - DETAILS TO FOLLOW.  We will be donating to PALS in Millcreek
  • MAY 1 - SHANNON TILLY'S MOM WILL BE A GUEST AT OUR MEETING TO DISCUSS HELPING REFUGEE KIDS OVER THE WEEKENDS THROUGH FOOD PACKS, ETC.  
  • MAY 3 - FUN RUN TO BENEFIT VIETNAM YOUTHLINC PROJECT.  STEPHANIE CHARD TO PROVIDE DETAILS
  • MAY 15-17 - ROTARY MEETING IN LOGAN.  LET LAURIE KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND
  • MAY 17 - YOUTHLINC EVENT  
  • MAY 29 - SOCIAL - CAPITOL THEATER'S "MEMPHIS" - SOCIAL COMMITTEE TO SEND OUT TICKET DETAILS, ETC
  • JUNE 7 - RUN FOR REFUGEES - JUDY ZONE TO PROVIDE DETAILS
  • JUNE 14 - SOCIAL AT STEPHANIE CHARD'S  - SHE WILL BE SERVING THE BEST BURGERS IN TOWN
  •  JULY 14 OR TBD - BILL KILLE TO ORGANIZE VOLUNTEER HOURS HELPING MAKE THE MILLCREEK COMMUNITY FLOAT FOR THE DAYS OF '47 PARADE - 
Members Jenny Ferguson and Mustafa Celebi were spotlighted.  They both shared great things about their lives.

Meeting Minutes from April 3, 2014 Business Meeting

Attendees: Andrea White, Linda Book, Judy Zone, Gregory Roberts (guest), Miriam Barth, Marlin Clark, Bill Kille, Jennie Ferguson, Ladd Tanner, Frank Lilly, Danny Schoenfeld, Ron Stevens, Shannon Tilly, Sonia Woodbury, Chas Boynton, Dayna Revetti, John Zone (16 members)

Marlin introduced his guest, Gregory Roberts.  Welcome Gregory!

Nominations for 2014-2015 board members were presented and approved by the membership: Frank Lilly, President Elect; Danny Schoenfeld, President Nominee; Dayna Revetti, Secretary; Ladd Tanner, Treasurer.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Northern Assembly, Saturday, April 12, at Hillside Elementary.

Ladd is collecting quarterly dues ($90), and he will send out an email soon to remind us.

Frank proposed a service project with Sunnyvale kids (possibly field trip to the Leonardo).  Details to come.

Judy reminded everyone of the Youthlinc Annual Benefit, May 17.  Consider attending to support the Youthlinc Service Year. All money donated by attending members (including entrance) goes directly to support a student's participation. Last year we supported Chris Casper's son Sam to Guatemala, and this year, Liz Sherlock's daughter Hilary to Kenya.  Contact Judy for more information judy@youthlinc.org.

Member Spotlight: Sonia Woodbury presented us with her past and present, including her family and occupation.  She even offered to teach our members tap dancing (future social?!)! Thanks Sonia!

Shannon asked for volunteers to sign-up for Century of Service “Book Club.” A member will present a chapter from the book every other month.  Thanks for organizing and providing us with books, Shannon!

Bill proposed a June or July service project: Participate in creating the Millcreek float for the July 24th parade.  Members are excited and willing to participate.

Sonia updated us on our participation with RYLA, which some of our Interactors will attend this fall.  Our club will help fund some students for the events.

Service at Sunnyvale still need coverage for March 21 and April 4. Babysitting has been a little challenging and need to plan ahead if you are signed up.

Looking into a social and service at Deer Valley for skiing at the end of the year.

Miriam reported that we have sent the money to Cambodia for the water treatment project.

Margarita did a presentation about her work, life, and travels to Botswana.

  • Member committee encouraged all of us to invite friends to meetings and socials.  Margereta Vlasic is our highlighted member on March 13 and will be speaking about her life and her recent return visit to Botswana

A big thank you to Sunnyvale Center babysitters!

Here is a shout out to our club members who have volunteered to babysit at Sunnyvale Welcome Center for the kids of refugee moms and dads taking a financial literacy course on Friday nights!

ROTARY CLUB OF MILLCREEK - MEETING NOTES - FEBRUARY 13, 2014


Attendees: Dayna, Frank, Liz, Charles, Laurie, Bill, Frank, Jennifer,Shannon, Danny, Ladd, Ron, Sonja, Andrea, Susan, Miriam - 16 attendees

  • A Century of Service the is a book of Rotary. It was recommended that we read a chapter each month and report back to the club in a short report.
  • For new service ideas the board has asked that we write them up and send them ahead of time for their review.
  • Gina thanked the club for the $110 in Happy Bucks. 
  • We are still looking for volunteers for the Sunnyvale 5:30 to 7:00 for the next several Fridays.
  • Ladd talked about a possible ski social for the club. Details will be forthcoming.
  • There is still an interest in a possible international trip. The club is still discussing a location and time. 
  • Charles and Andrea gave a Rotary highlight about the professional and personal lives.

CHRIS CASPER AND BILL KILLE GAVE OVERVIEWS OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR CAREERS - It is alway fun to learn about our members.

Group agreed social meetings will be coordinated with volunteer events.  A sign up sheet went around to volunteer to host dinner at your house.

FEBRUARY 28 NOTE THIS IS A FRIDAY NIGHT- LADD TANNER'S HOUSE - 7935 DANISH RIDGE WAY, SLC.  BRING  a $10 donation for refugee socks and boots

MARCH 20 -   CHRIS CASPERS HOUSE - 1060 VISTA VIEW DRIVE, SLC - POTLUCK AND PIZZA.  Bring a kid's incentive to share with the kids at Sunnyvale.  Judy Zone will be sending a list of projects and the list of needed incentive items is in this document

We also reviewed other projects for Sunnyvale - watch for an e-mail from Judy Zone

OUR HAPPY BUCKS FOR THIS MEETING WENT TO MEMBER - GINA COLEMAN, TO ASSIST WITH HER TRIP TO INDIA IN 7 DAYS TO ADOPT A BABY GIRL.  WE COLLECTED $190 - ALL THE BEST AND SAFE TRAVELS GINA.  WE ARE VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!! 

All RCMC members left with smiles - another fun night of friends, food and facilitating improving the lives of refugee youth in our Millcreek community.
