Meeting Minutes Sept 10, 2015

Notes:
  • Final details for Wine into Water fundraiser were discussed. About 75 tickets sold so far.
  • The District Grant was granted for $550, asked for $2000 but there were many requests. The money is for computers at Sunnyvale.
  • The Rotary International President will be in town on October 16th for the Parliament of World Religions. A dinner in his honor will be held at the Marriott Downtown City Center. 6-7 pm social hour, dinner at 7 pm. Cost: $30.00
  • The Relay for Life, American Cancer Society walk,  will be held next Friday from 4 pm to midnight. Several members are interested in attending, possibly as a group. More particulars to follow.
  • Ladd Tanner: He went to Rotary International in Barcelona when he was President-elect in Park City. He felt it was very useful to find out what the Rotary push is for the year and helps to be able to get matching funds. He would like to go to the next one, is requesting $400 registration fee.
  • Laurie Summers-Pisani: Wine into water preparations ready. Tents up at 11:00. Bring food by5:30.
  • Shannon Tilley: Discussed raffle details for Wine into Water.
  • Social committee: Looking into getting tickets for the Tabernacle Choir practice Christmas event on December 13th. They go on “sale” (are free) on October 17th, the same day as the Retreat. Possible brunch downtown afterwards.

  • Bruce Powell (to report on Guatemalan Water Project)
  • Max Calleja (exchange student)

Notes:

  • The 4 way test was recited.
  • A vote was taken and Ladd Tanner was voted in as President-elect unanimously.
  • Laurie Summers-Pisani: Wine into water preparations are apace. Still need people to commit to food and buy tickets. Need tables and other things by Thursday.
  • Guest Bruce Powell from the District Foundation Committee described what our donation had been used for. The water project has been started which will provide water to a village with 1600 people. This will be the first time they have water in their community. He will send a list of other potential projects for us to consider.
  • Max Calleja has arrived, is currently staying with Brian Rollo and attending high school. He is from Chile.
  • Marty Gelman reported on his initial visit with the refugee family we are mentoring. The family consists of a single mother with seven children, ages 5 to 18. They are from Burma.
  • Social committee: Looking into a possible trip to Cuba in February. Stephanie Chard volunteered to hold Christmas Party at her house.

Coming Events:

  • Wine into Water, September 12th. 
  • Retreat will be October 17th during the day, that evening will be Oktoberfest at the Sherlock’s house.
