Business Meeting Minutes – June 6, 2019
Members in attendance:  Jayne Barnett, Linda Book, Denise Chasse, Rose Defa, Julie Jones, Tim Jones, Susan Marks, Justin Powell, Laurie Summers-Pisani, Shannon Tilly, Erica Wolff
Guests in attendance:  Chris Cochella
Business items:
1.       Call to order, Four-Way Test
2.       Committee Updates:
a.       Service – Rose – Hope Lodge – Thursday, June 27th, 5:00 p.m. if you need to cook/prep.  Dinner will be served from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  375 E. 100 South, SLC.  Please wear your RCMC T-Shirt!!!
b.       Social – Shannon/Erica – June 15th - Hike in Millcreek Canyon.  Meet at Shannon’s house at 7:30 a.m. (continental breakfast), 3584 E. 3800 South, SLC. Park in the street in front of Shannon’s house – the “No Parking” signs were put up so no one else will park there! 😊
c.       Membership – Jane is working on a few potential members. 
d.       Treasurer – Tim – Everything’s good. 

Other Business items:
1.       District Grant – The 1st Lego League at Millcreek Elementary School – An after-school program that involves the use of computers, robotics and basic engineering.  Our budget for the project will be ~$1800-$2000.
2.       Committee Positions for 2019/2020 – Jayne said we should “get involved!”
3.       Optional service project – Julie Jones – Diaper Drive.  Our club will donate $500. Project is collecting diapers, wipes and baby formula to help transition people out of homelessness.  If you want to make a personnel contribution of goods, please bring them to Shannon’s on June 15th (the day of the hike).
4.       2019/2020 Installation Dinner – August 8th at Café Niche – details to follow.
5.       Wine in to Water Date 2019 will be Thursday, September 19th.  Grant opportunity:  Help Midvale Rotary Club with their Uganda project.
6.       May Polio Pig total: $158.77.
7.       Anyone who would like to step-up and order the food for our business meetings: please contact Jayne or Justin.

House of Hope

In celebration of Mother’s Day, we teamed up with the House of Hope to supply and make fun and useful gift bags of personal care items for participants in their program.   Having worked up appetites on the festive production line, we followed up with dinner at Cucina.

The Burrito Project - Service with a Smile

For our May 2019 service project, we teamed up with Rico Cocina to build tasty, warm burritos and deliver them to some homeless friends in neighboring areas.  This is our second year of participation and it’s a club favorite!

a.       Service – Rose - Burrito Project – Thursday, May 23rd, 5:30 p.m. (be there by 5:15 if you want to roll-up burritos!) – 545 West 700 South, SLC.  Please wear your RCMC T-Shirt!!!

d.       Treasurer Update – Tim – Jayne passed-out a treasurer report that Tim provided her.
3.       U40 Citation for Clubs – A six-month period where clubs participate in a trial of suggested ideas to find and retain members under the age of 40.  See separate sheet for details. 
4.       Members: please bring wine or non-alcoholic beverages to business meetings to share.  Thank you!

Visitors in attendance:  Jose Velasco and Drew Allen from the Rotary Club of Midvale
Business items:
1.       Call to order, Four-Way Test
2.       Visitor Introductions: Guest Speakers: Jose Velasco and Drew Allen – Rotary Club of Midvale – Global Grant For Uganda.  Midvale Club is raising funds for food crop and fish farming, targeting $75k.  The idea is to improve nutrition for locals, since protein is missing from their diet.
3.       Update on Millcreek Elementary Art Festival Night – Tim/Justin – The students signed a big Thank You card to the volunteers.  We filled teacher’s wish list book orders by contributing $300 of RCMC money.
4.       Committee Updates:

Business Meeting Minutes – April 4, 2019

Business items:
1.       Call to order, Four-Way Test
2.       Millcreek Elementary Support
a.       April 18th, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  (instead of Business Meeting): Participate in Millcreek Elementary’s Art Festival.  We’ll be helping with craft stations for the kids.  3761 1100 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84106.  Arrive at 4:40 p.m. to help set-up if you can.   Wear your RCMC T-shirts!
b.       Another possible volunteer activity: April 12th, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Help set-up for the Scholastic Book Fair.
c.       And yet another volunteer activity:  April 15th-19th, in the morning, at lunchtime and/or after school: Help take Scholastic Book orders.
3.       Committee Updates:
a.       Service – House of Hope – Thursday, April 25th, 5:30 p.m.  Rose sent-out a sign-up sheet for needed items (for donation by us members).
b.       Social – Erica – April 25th after House of Hope service project: meet for dinner at Cucina’s, 1026 E. 2nd Avenue, 7:00 p.m.
c.       Membership – No update
d.       Treasurer – No update.
e.       Youth – Please email or send a text msg to Jayne if you want to attend the Youthlinc Benefit Dinner on May 11th from 6:30-9:00 p.m.  A table for 8 has been reserved.
4.       Additional Opportunities at Volunteers of America – Tim indicated he’s looking into a Saturday in May that we can serve pancakes for breakfast.
