W2W - Laurie: Asked Judy to expand on W2W goals: Each member is asked to sell/purchase four tickets at $50 each. Each member should bring or have sent an attractive platter of substantial finger food for15 people. Each member is asked to help with set up and clean up as needed. In addition, each member is asked to pitch in with two of the following, 1) purchasing the alcohol, 2) donations of restaurant appetizers, plastic plates, cups, napkins, or water bottles, 3) help secure musicians or singers for background music, 4) put together opportunity drawing baskets. Judy passed around a handout with more details. (Judy will help advise on how to put together baskets; recommends approaching local businesses in Millcreek. Only need six baskets.)

Laurie passed around the Polio Pig for people to sign. The pig represents our commitment to eradicating polio.

Other

Danny offered to reach out to the Millcreek mayoral candidates to speak at the club – as a way of getting them involved.

Rotary Thought - Laurie Summers.

Laurie highlighted the Rotary magazine, a benefit of membership, and the Rotary Code of Conduct.

Induct New Member - Colby Rider. Chris shared that Colby chose Rotary because of his desire for service. Colby works for CK Plastics. He loves to raise orchids and has a diverse group of friends.

Presidential Citation/Goals for 2016-2017/Video - Chris presented a video featuring John Germ who spoke about the theme of Rotary Serving Humanity. Chris will send the longer version of the video to all members. Chris mentioned a renewed focus on eradicating polio.

Chris distributed the Presidential Citation goals. Judy explained the purpose and scope for earning the citation. Chris also explained that the board identified citation goals:

Membership:

Net gain of one member

                        Induct two new members under the age of 40

Foundation giving:

Total contribution of at least $536

$26.50 from each member

Minimum annual fund contribution of $100 per capita

Online Tool Adoption:

50% of members identify interests and skills in My Rotary profiles (suggested a social event to get everyone online to complete their profiles; Rose to send out member #s)

Post one initiative in Rotary showcase

Humanitarian Service:

Partner with the Foundation by sponsoring at least one project funded by a global or district grant

One member attend a grant seminar

Establish a partnership and conduct a project with one or more corporations, governmental, or nongovernmental organizations (note: club already partners with Promise Salt Lake and Youthlinc)

New Generations:

Sponsor an Interact club

Involve Rotaracters or Interactors in club project/events

Sponsor a participant in RYLA. (Emmery Jansen selected and will be attending RYLA)

Public Image:

Host an event to inform the community about Rotary and its Foundation

W2W - Laurie: Event is scheduled for September 11 at the Aviary. Wasatch Academy of Wine and Vine Lore will be there and a signature vodka drink. Members needed to help with purchasing with wine. Also need a food source. Laurie working on tickets and opportunity drawings. Judy will send out a list of member volunteer opportunities for W2W. Each member is responsible for four tickets.

Social - Jennie: Possible Snowbird on July 30; Jennie will send out an invite to determine interest. Jennie is new Service chair, so we need a new Social chair.

Raised $40; Chris will get money to Frank.

Fabulous & informative membership meeting!

Thanks to all who attended our membership meeting on Thursday, June 30 at Cafe Madrid. We had nine new potential members attend. Representative Patrice Arent gave us an overview of the State Legislature and her work there. Treasurer Frank Lilly gave a great overview of our club activities and The Rotary Foundation Centennial.

Meeting Minutes June 9, 2016

Attendees: Liz Sherlock, Danny Schoenfeld, Susan Marks, Cesar Diaz, Sonia Woodbury, and Brian Rollo. New members Dianne Cochrane and Colby Rider also attended.

The meeting was chaired by Danny Schoenfeld. Meeting held at Café Madrid.

Guests: No Guests were present. Welcome new members, Colby and Dianne!

Rotary moment: Cesar brought pictures and a thank you certificate from the Mother’s Day event.

Grant ideas: It has been suggested that we give Kindle Fires again, same as this year. Susan suggested that in addition we make the giving more personal by having members involved in some way, perhaps training on the tablets or something to tie it more to service. The tablets will go to Promise, South Salt Lake School.

Committees:

Social:  The June social, organized by Frank, will be Saturday June 18^th, hike beginning at Brighton Ski Resort parking lot at 2 p.m. and then dinner at the Spruces campground, number 4, at 5 p.m. Frank will send an email with more details and potluck information.

July 21^st will be the installation dinner for new board, location TBD, new member installation will be held then as well.

Membership: June 30^th at 5:30 a membership event is being planned. Invite 1 or 2 people. It will be here at Café Madrid and last one hour. Shannon has made an invitation to distribute. It is RSVP. Judy will make us a “resume” about our club for guests to take home. She’ll do the accomplishments. Frank will do the presentation of this. Please let Danny or Shannon know how many will be coming as there will be wine and snacks which they must order.

The Wine into Water Committee: Sept 11, 2016, 5-7:30 p.m. at Tracy Aviary. Tickets will be $50.00. Susan suggested we get members on board early.

Service Committee: Service for June, bring books for the International School to the social.

Intergenerational: For RYLA, one student from City Academy and 2 refugees are planned.

Next meeting, July 7^th. It will be held at Café Madrid at 5:30 p.m.

It's graduation day for two members of the refugee families we mentor!

Millcreek Club has been mentoring two refugee families who had a big event Friday, May 27, 2016: Gaudence and SaKeDa graduated from Cottonwood High School.

SaKeDa was one of two student speakers and told the story of his family's escape from Myanmar, years in a refugee camp in Thailand and how they ended up in SLC 7 years ago.

Rotary Club of Millcreek meeting minutes May 12, 2016

Attendees (9): Liz Sherlock,  Danny Schoenfeld, Rose Defa, Susan Marks, Mustafa Celebi, Cesar Diaz, Laurie Summers-Pisani, Judy Zone and  Frank Lilly.

The meeting was chaired by Danny Schoenfeld. Meeting held at Café Madrid.

Guests: Anita Miner, a deacon at the Episcopal Church, friend of Susan Marks. She has done volunteering for refugees, lived overseas for many years, now in SLC for 25 years.

The Four Way test was recited.

Rotary moment: Cesar discussed the Mother’s Day program, where the mothers received makeovers by the Paul Mitchell school. It was great, 434 mothers came. Club support was appreciated.

Rose discussed the District Conference in Cedar City.  She felt the business meeting was informative, run by Jim Coleman. Takeaways: there will be more discretion by clubs in the number of meetings, 2x month effective July 1^st. Possible joint membership between Rotary and Rotoractors. Possible flexibility in membership, some clubs have categories of membership with different dues. Rotary dues will increase $4 per year. Rotary clubs may partner more with other non-profits. Rotary Int’l is now generating membership leads, these need to be followed up on promptly. Social Media such as Facebook will be used to build community. Rotary is close to eradicating polio, but there is a $1 billion funding gap. Only 2 countries left, Pakistan and Afghanistan with polio.

Mustafa noted that Max Callega, our exchange student, has returned to Chile.

District Grant: Grant was received, Kindles have been purchased according to Frank. Eleven Kindle Fires were purchased and will be delivered to the Scott School. Match was $300. The District Report has been completed.

Judy Zone mentioned that the Youthlinc fundraiser and her retirement party will be May 21^st.

Frank discussed the financial report. There are several reasons why our Rotary Foundation contributions have not been recorded. It is complicated. The club has 6000 points from Global Grants. Those are up for grabs for club members. We have $26,700 in the bank, but over $12,000 is committed for various expenses. Frank would like to engage an accountant to help straighten out the books.

Committees:

Social: The May social will be at Danny’s house on May 28^th, from 5-7 It will be a pot luck barbeque.

Rose sent a survey to the members for feedback about the club. Please participate.

June 18^th (Saturday) will be a hike to Lake Mary at 1:30, with dinner at the Spruces at 5:00.

Membership: June 30^th at 5:30 a membership event is being planned.

The Wine into Water Committee: Lori said that we are going to partner up and ask some Millcreek businesses for support. The event will start at 5 pm and cost $50 this year. This is the 5^th year! Date: Sept 11, 2016.

Service Committee: no update

Foundation: Susan stated we can create our own foundation, especially for Wine into Water. We need to operate more efficiently and not comingle funds.

Intergenerational: no update
