Business Meeting Minutes November 1, 2018

2. Visitor
introductions and information: Steve
Knudson introduced Dr. Scott Leckman. Dr. Leckman talked on the theme: ‘BE THE
INSPIRATION’, aka, how to make the world a better place. He recommended we Rotarians set some goals,
including:
a.
Gain a greater appreciation for outside of our
club
b.
Engage in the Global Grant
c.
Attend the District Conference which will be in
May 2019 in SLC
d.
Attend the Rotary International Conventions
(Hamburg, Germany this year)
e.
Plant trees (at least 1 per member) in our
community.
Dr. Leckman spoke about the 6 areas
of focus for Rotary: Clean water and sanitation; peace/conflict resolution;
disease prevention and treatment; basic education and literacy; economic
community development; maternal and child health. Finally, he said the Rotary Foundation has
the highest possible financial accountability and transparency rating.
3. November Service/Social Event/Membership
Event: Friendsgiving is planned for
Nov 8 at John & Judy Zone’s home. 4517 S. Abinadi Road, 6-8pm. Please bring
new (or gently used and clean) coats, hats, and mittens for children sizes
6-16. These items will be taken to Sunnyvale Neighborhood Center. If
anyone is interested in being the new Social committee chairperson please
contact Jayne.

Wine into Water Wrap-Up
a. Financial – Danny reported a further breakdown of WIW
finances. See attached event summary.

RCMC finance update –
Danny presented a club finance spreadsheet (see attached).
5.
Operation Santa 2018 –
Jose talked about this year’s planned event at Target @ Union Park Center. It
will be on Saturday, Dec 1st. The goal is for each child to have
$75.00 to spend. Jose asked that we each go online to the
Random Acts of Kindness site to nominate Operation Santa for possible monetary support. As a Club, we need to decide
how we will contribute to the project.

6. October Service Event –
Donating 650 apples to Backyard Garden Share for kids’ backpacks, to be
distributed prior to UEA weekend (10/15). Rose and Denise went to the Murray
Farmers Market and purchased the apples. Denise is taking the apples to the
Redwood Elementary.
7. Social –
Friendsgiving is planned for Nov 8 at Judy Zone’s home. See Judy’s emails for
more information. If anyone is interested in being the new chair person and
committee , please contact
Jayne.
8.
Next Business Meeting –
November 1 @ CCC, 5:30 p.m., followed with a Board Meeting. The District
Governor Scott Leckman will be visiting.

Water Wrap-Up
a. Financial
– Danny reported total revenue of $16,546 ($345 in donations remains
outstanding), costs totaling $5,448, for a net of $10,753.
b. Food
– Julie J. commented on the exceptional food provided by members. It was over-
the-top! The only complaint received relative to food was the wasp infestation!
c. Beverages
– Laurie indicated this year’s wines were the best we’ve had, and couldn’t say enough
nice things about Jim Santangelo and his presentation of the wines. If anyone
is interested in having Jim conduct a private event, his contact info is
provided at bottom.
d.
Tasks – Rose reported that everything went
smoothly with people bringing the supplies they signed-up to bring.
e. Opportunity
Drawing – Ronda wasn’t at the meeting, but many people commented to Erica
regarding the outstanding baskets she and Ronda made.
f.
Other – Chris’ and Joe’s signage was fabulous,
as were Dave R.’s printed napkins. Check- in was smooth and efficient – thank
you Youthlinc volunteers!!!

Club of the Year Banner – Kristi Guest – Kristi present Chris Casper
with the Club of the Year Banner for her year as president (2016-17) The banner
was lost and then found and the past DG, Bev Christy wanted our club to have it
for at least a few months. Chris will
bring it to be displayed at Wine into Water event.
·
Wine into Water Updates:
1. Food Committee – Julie and Jayne – All set on food but need
flowers. Laurie Summers volunteered to
do the flowers. It was suggested that we include Fiji water bottles to tie in
with water project in Fiji. Will send out a reminder early next week to
those members who have signed up to bring food.
2.
Beverage Committee – Laurie – All set and has received money
from some members to help cover the cost of the wine vendors.
3.
Task Committee – Rose – All set. Has purchased additional utensils that were
needed and has everything else covered.
4.
Wine Pull & Opportunity Drawing – Ronda – still does not have enough wine to
do the wine pull. Leaning towards doing
3 wine/gift baskets. Tickets cost to be (2) for $20.00 or (5) for $40.00. Danny mentioned that attendees that have
prepaid for event with a credit card will need to re-swipe the card for
donations and opportunity drawing tickets.
Will include a space on the program to write in a bid #.
5. RSVP – Jayne – We are at approximately 140 guests
that have RSVP’d. As a reminder in order to meet our goal for the event - each member
should pay for or try to have 4 people pay to attend. We need every member to keep working on
this. Email, text or call and invite
friends and family! Post and promote on social media. Club is going to pay to boost post on
Facebook. Deadline is Monday, Sept. 10th!
6.
Promotion and New signage for W2W event – Chris – All signage is redesigned to match.
(looks great!) Joe has a friend who is
doing all of our signs at cost. Thank
you, Joe! Will have a printed program
that will include a thank you to all of our sponsors, musicians etc. and a
space to write in a bid # for the opportunity drawing.
7.
Logistics for credit cards and Wi-Fi – Danny – he will contact Tracy Aviary to
check about the Wi-Fi. We will need to
have Wi-Fi to avoid problems with swiping credit cards. May want to consider purchasing a wireless
hot spot for the club to avoid potential problems. Will also make sure that everything is set
for credit card payments.
8.
Clean up committee – Dave V.
– Need to be sure that members who are bringing food gather and take
home their own platters and serving utensils! Need to be completely cleaned up
and out of the Aviary no later than 9:00PM!!

Committee Updates:
1)
Service –
Rose – October service project will be on Saturday, October 6th
supporting Sunnyvale with Harmon’s Festival.
Rose[JB1] will follow up with details. Need at least 10 volunteers. Chris thanked everyone for a great hike in
August to Ensign Peak. The kids really
enjoyed it!
2)
Social – Laurie
– Park City 3rd Annual Shot Ski Event, Saturday, October 13,
2018. Details to follow.
