Business Meeting Minutes October 3, 2019

Business items:

1.       Call to order, Four-Way Test

2.       Socials with Argentine Rotarians

a.       October 11 – Shannon - We’re taking the Argentine Rotarians to lunch at Porcupine (the one by the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon) at 12:30 p.m.  After lunch at Porcupine, we’ll take our visitors on a scenic ride up one of the canyons.

b.       October 11 – 5:30 p.m. John Haglund will host a potluck dinner at his home (address below).  John will provide enchiladas and an Italian soda bar.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. 

c.       October 12^th - Erica - We’ll be taking our visitors to Park City for the Sunrise Rotary’s annual Shot Ski event.  Erika to provide details.

3.       Wine into Water quick-look report: The numbers are still very preliminary.  Rose and Tim to finalize and report.

4.       Committee Updates

a.       Service – Chris – Local service project ideas were brainstormed and discussed.  Chris will tally-up members’ inputs and report results soon.

b.      Youth – Jayne – 3 people have been selected for the RYLA weekend.

5.       Club Survey – Justin – Justin will be sending out a survey to club members soon.

6.       President Elect needed – Ronda will not be able to serve as club president.  We need someone to step-up and lead us!

Upcoming Events

Oct 11^th – Visiting Rotarians from Argentina – Shannon (and anyone who wants to join her) will be taking visitors to lunch and for a scenic ride up one of the canyons.  Meet at the Porcupine by the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon at 12:30 p.m.

Oct 11^th – Dinner/Social – 5:30 p.m.  Dinner at John Haglund’s home, with the visiting Rotarians from Argentina.  John’s home is at 1391 E. Stillwood Dr.

Wine Into Water 2019

We appreciate all who supported and attended our annual FUNdraiser at the beautiful Tracy Aviary.  This year we are joining other local Rotary clubs to benefit a farming and water project in Uganda.

Business Meeting Minutes September 5 and September 12, 2019

1.      Call to order, Four-Way Test

2.      Wine into Water Committee Updates:

a.      Set-up – All set-up people asked to arrive at Tracy Aviary by 3:30 p.m. the day of the event

b.      Beverage – Wine educators lined-up

c.      RSVP – As of Rose’s last update, 100 people have signed-up (our goal is 220).  PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO IMPROVE THE TURNOUT!

d.      Promotion – Pearl paid for a Facebook ad

e.      Food – Sign-up sheet sent out to remind people to bring the food, plated and ready to serve.

f.       Entertainment – Pepper Rose, acoustic guitar player/singer

g.      Volunteers – Youthlinc students lined-up to help

h.      Opportunity Drawing – Please contact Ronda at (801) 540-7070 if you have anything else to add to the baskets!

Our theme this year is “World-Wide Wines”. Please wear your Rotary pin to the event!!!

NEWS:  Banner awarded to our club by the District 5420 Rotary Foundation, for 100% member participation in donating to the Rotary Foundation for 2018-2019.  Congratulations to Jayne Barnett, our 2018-2019 club President!

In celebration of the coming Fall, we gathered fresh produce (and honey!) from our gardens and the Tuesday evening Downtown Farmers Market and delivered it to the Highland High School food pantry through the Backyard Garden Share project.

1.       Call to order

2.       Wine into Water Committee Updates:

a.       Task – Tents have been identified

b.       Beverage – Wine educators lined-up

c.       RSVP – Please do your part in getting the word out to friend, family, co-workers, acquaintances, etc.  Use social media, direct emails, etc.  Each member needs to get people to show!

d.       Promotion – Encourage the use of social media to get the message out – Pearl is happy to help with image sizing for the various tools (Facebook, etc, etc)

e.       Check-in – No update

f.        Food – Please plate your food and bring serving utensils so food is ready to serve upon arrival at the Aviary

g.       Entertainment – Frank is working on a lead, hoping to get a commitment by 8/12.

h.       Volunteers – Dave V. and Justin will recruit Youthlinc-ers, and Dave V. will manage them at the event

i.         Opportunity Drawing – Please consider if you have items that would be attractive in a gift basket.  Please bring them to the next business meeting.  Wine too!

a.       15 service projects

                                                                     i.      Top 3 categories of projects: Food insecurity, refugees, disadvantaged women and children

b.       12 avg members participated

c.       $10,348 – value of member’s time donated

d.       $4,233 – in-kind or cash donations by members

2.       Jayne reported our club earned a 2018-2019 Rotary Citation with Presidential Distinction!
