Madrid.
Guests:Tahna
Tyler, friend of Susan Marks, Jane Barnett, friend of Marty Gelman.
The Four Way
test was recited.
Rotary
moment: Service was discussed
Guests were
introduced. Marty feels Jane would be a good fit for our club. Tahna and Susan
have been friends for several years.
Committees:
Social: A
panini making social to be held April 21st at Stephanie Chard’s
house was discussed. Final plans in the making.
The Wine into Water
Committee: Venue is secured. The date is Sept. 11, 2016.
Membership: Frank noted
that the membership committee is meeting tomorrow. Stephanie said that we need
to finish the website in order to attract new members. Brian Rollo said he
would help with this. Tanya suggested we look at MeetUp to get info out about
our meetings.
Service
Committee: Margareta discussed the need to move forward and complete our Rotary
grant. The Scott School which has many refugee students and after school
programs for them, would prefer Kindle Fire’s
to regular computers. This does not appear to be a problem. It was
questioned what they needed them for and how they would track them. Margareta
said there would be a checkout system. Frank said he could order them on
Amazon.
Since the
April service project (dinner for Max) was cancelled, Margareta would like some
suggestions for future projects. She discussed the Real Food Rising, a garden
that hires refugee teens for the summer. She will get more details.
Marty
suggested Robis International, an organization that procures about-to-expire
medicines and donates them. They need help sorting and packaging. He also
mentioned Operation School Bell, which in the fall sorts coats and school
clothes for children.
Frank
mentioned that South Salt Lake is also establishing a community garden.
Margareta
needs someone to take over the job of Service Chair since she will be the
president-elect in June when Chris Casper becomes the President.
Foundation:
Susan stated she has reached out to the person who has recognition points
available to become a Paul Harris Fellow. There are points available. She would
like to see every member of the club a Paul Harris Fellow.
Intergenerational:
Jim said the speed mentoring was a big success. There were 9 Rotoractors and
about 12 club members who discussed career related issues. Susan suggested that
in the past there was an offer of individual mentoring which was very
successful.
Susan
announced that the District Assembly is on April 9th from 10-4 at
Westminster. Good introduction to Rotary and free.
Also, the
District Conference will be May 5-7th in Cedar City. Danny cannot
attend, so Frank suggested the funds be directed to Chris Casper
(president-elect) or Rose Defa if Chris declines them.
Next meeting,
April 14th, Café Madrid. Board meeting following. All invited.
There will
be District Assembly training on April 9th.
The 2-16
District Conference will be May 5-7 in Cedar City.
Meeting
adjourned.
