Business Meeting Minutes December 6, 2018

Members in attendance:  Joe Ballsteadt, Jayne Barnett, Dave Chasse’, Denise Chassé, Julie Chassé, Rose Defa, Ronda Eiting, Tim Jones, Frank Lily, Susan Marks, Justin Powell, Colby Rider, Laurie Summers-Pisani, Shannon Tilly, Erica Wolff, Pearl Wright, Judy Zone

Business items:

1.     Call to order, Four-Way Test

2.      New club member:  Jayne introduced Pearl Wright.  Pearl is a long-time member of the SLC Rotary Club.  Welcome, Pearl!

3.      Finance update: Tim reported that we have approx. $43,000 in our Club’s checking account.  He also indicated that he’ll be getting in touch with some members to get their dues straightened out.

4.      Service update: Rose said 17 members from our club participated in Operation Santa at Target, and it was very successful. Rose mentioned 3 ideas for longer-term service projects to consider: helping Millcreek Promise’s program for 3rd graders’ reading skills, helping the school programs that provide food for students to bring home with them on weekends,  and Tim indicated we’re signed-up to cook a meal at Volunteers of America in February .

5.      Membership update: Ronda reported that we now have 31 members!

6.      Social committee update:  We’re still looking for someone to step-up and take over the social committee chair position.

7.      District Grant update: Frank said the District grants have not yet been awarded because one club hasn’t yet submitted their report.

8.       Foundation Committee: Susan indicated she and Joe will be contacting club members about contributing more money to the Foundation (by contributing more than our standard $100/member/yr).

9.       Next Business Meeting / Board Meeting: January 3rd at 5:30 pm at the new Youthlinc office-1166 E. Brickyard Road. A second business meeting will be held on Jan 10th (same time and place).

10.   December Social Event:  Holiday social and service project (contribute gifts for our refugee family) Dec 13th Holiday Social at Erica’s house, 3222 E. Regan Court, Cottonwood Heights

11.   Happy Dollars (Polio Pig):  $100 collected!!!

Guests in attendance:  Bryan Nelson, John Haglund, Dr. Scott Leckman, Barry Watson, Bill Crim, Steve & Christine Knudson

Business items:

1.      Call to order, Four-Way Test

2.      Visitor introductions and information:  Steve Knudson introduced Dr. Scott Leckman. Dr.      Leckman talked on the theme: ‘BE THE INSPIRATION’, aka, how to make the world a better place.  He recommended we Rotarians set some goals, including:
a.       Gain a greater appreciation for outside of our club
b.       Engage in the Global Grant
c.       Attend the District Conference which will be in May 2019 in SLC
d.       Attend the Rotary International Conventions (Hamburg, Germany this year)
e.       Plant trees (at least 1 per member) in our community.
Dr. Leckman spoke about the 6 areas of focus for Rotary: Clean water and sanitation; peace/conflict resolution; disease prevention and treatment; basic education and literacy; economic community development; maternal and child health.  Finally, he said the Rotary Foundation has the highest possible financial accountability and transparency rating.

3.      November Service/Social Event/Membership Event:  Friendsgiving is planned for Nov 8 at John & Judy Zone’s home. 4517 S. Abinadi Road, 6-8pm. Please bring new (or gently used and clean) coats, hats, and mittens for children sizes 6-16. These items will be taken to Sunnyvale Neighborhood Center. If anyone is interested in being the new Social committee chairperson please contact Jayne.

4.       Next Business Meeting / Board Meeting: December 6th 5:30 pm at the new Youthlinc office-1166 E. Brickyard Road.

Business Meeting Notes October 11, 2018

Business items:

2.      Pinning of new members: Ann Hart, Tim Jones
3.      Wine into Water Wrap-Up
a.      Financial – Danny reported a further breakdown of WIW finances. See attached event summary.
4.      RCMC finance update – Danny presented a club finance spreadsheet (see attached).
5.      Operation Santa 2018 – Jose talked about this year’s planned event at Target @ Union Park Center. It will be on Saturday,           Dec 1st. The goal is for each child to have $75.00 to spend. Jose asked that we each go online to the
        Random Acts  of Kindness site to nominate Operation Santa for possible monetary support.  As a Club, we need to decide 
        how we will contribute to the project.
  6.    October Service Event – Donating 650 apples to Backyard Garden Share for kids’ backpacks, to be distributed prior to                         UEA  weekend (10/15). Rose and Denise went to the Murray Farmers Market and purchased the apples. Denise is taking the            apples to the Redwood Elementary.      
   7.   Social – Friendsgiving is planned for Nov 8 at Judy Zone’s home. See Judy’s emails for more information. If anyone is                            interested in being the new chair person and committee , please contact Jayne.
   8.      Next Business Meeting – November 1 @ CCC, 5:30 p.m., followed with a Board Meeting. The District Governor Scott                  Leckman will be visiting.

Business items:

1.      Call to order, Four-Way Test
2.      Wine into Water Wrap-Up
a.      Financial – Danny reported total revenue of $16,546 ($345 in donations remains outstanding), costs totaling $5,448, for a net of $10,753.
b.      Food – Julie J. commented on the exceptional food provided by members. It was over- the-top! The only complaint received relative to food was the wasp infestation!
c.      Beverages – Laurie indicated this year’s wines were the best we’ve had, and couldn’t say enough nice things about Jim Santangelo and his presentation of the wines. If anyone is interested in having Jim conduct a private event, his contact info is provided at bottom.
d.      Tasks – Rose reported that everything went smoothly with people bringing the supplies they signed-up to bring.
e.      Opportunity Drawing – Ronda wasn’t at the meeting, but many people commented to Erica regarding the outstanding baskets she and Ronda made.
f.       Other – Chris’ and Joe’s signage was fabulous, as were Dave R.’s printed napkins. Check- in was smooth and efficient – thank you Youthlinc volunteers!!!

4.     Social Event – Park City Sunrise Rotary’s 3rd Annual Shot Ski Event, 2:00 p.m. @ High West Distillery. Register          online: www.parkcityshotski.com 
5.      Interact RYLA – Brian reported the club sent 3 kids from City Academy, and thanked Ann and Jayne for providing transportation.
6.      Presidential Citation – Jayne identified the plan to again receive the citation this year.
