January 11, 2018 Business Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Jayne Barnett, Rose Defa, Dave Chasse, Denise Chasse, Frank Lilly, Susan Marks, Anita Miner, Justin Powell, Shannon Tilly, Dave Veenstra, Erica Wolff, Judy Zone

1. Call to Order, Four Way Test, Visitor Introductions - Frank – No visitors
2. Business Items:
a) Foundation/Frank, Judy and Susan – Discussed and explained for the new members what the Rotary Foundation does. It raises money for all Rotary projects. Important to make sure contributions are made. Also discussed Paul Harris Fellows – it is an award that Rotary gives members who have contributed over $1,000.00 to the Rotary Foundation. Paul Harris started Rotary in 1905 in Chicago. The first service project was in Chicago.
b) Presentation and Vote on 2018/2019 Rotary Club of Millcreek Officers – Frank –Vote was unanimous for entire slate! 16 votes (12 members present, 4 proxy votes) Positions start July 1, 2018 and go through June 30, 2019
c) Service Project Update – Rose – Rose emailed menu and up sheet for Hope Lodge dinner. Passed it around for additional sign up. Rose will update and put it in Google Docs. (Hope Lodge is no cost to patient and family members or caregivers) Bring things prepared. State of the art kitchen. Bring in a serving dish with serving utensils. Feb. 22nd 5-6:30pm Sunnyvale – will help set up iPads - (Chris) March 15th Food Bank 6:00-7:30 PM (Jayne) We need something for April.
d) Social Committee – Working on something for February 15th. Details to follow
e) Membership Committee – Shannon, Susan - Susan will get with Chris and put together a presentation for new members. Judy recommended one the district put it together that Susan will look at and edit.
f) Presidential Citation Update – Frank - Presidential Citation – Offered each year through RI. Have to complete goals with in 3 different categories, 4 per category. A lot of it has been done already and will continue to be a work in progress. Part of dues go to the foundation. When everyone pays we make our goal. Have a strategic planning meeting to help accomplish goals and be awarded the citation again this year.
3. Additional Business:
g) Interact Club – Dave V. – Dave would like to start an Interact Club at Kearns High School where he teaches. He has spoken to his principal and will work on getting it set up for the 2018/2019 school year.
h) Rock Club – Shannon – Shannon spoke with Miriam Barth who is a former member of RCOM and now a member of Rock Club – Rock Club consists of mostly Millennials with husbands and wives and families. Younger people are typically looking for more than just service from Rotary. Talked about mentoring with them. Brainstormed ideas. Judy – have a meeting with both clubs. Make it part of a business meeting. Possibly invite them to one of our meetings to make introductions and see what their needs are and try and build a relationship. Maybe participate in one of our service projects. Shannon will follow up with Miriam and report back.
i) District Lunch with Mexican Consulate – Wednesday, January 17, 2017 12Noon at Cottonwood Country Club
