Two really fun events dispel February doldrums for Millcreek Rotarians

Outside of Valentines Day (which for many is a bummer), there is not much to celebrate in February unless you love cold weather, dreary days, and snow. Millcreek Rotarians brightened up the month with a unique social and a really rewarding vocational service project.

Kiler Grove Winegrowers is Salt Lake's only winery, and though the grapes are Californian, the wine is made right here. It is a wonderful way to while away a winter's evening: a wine tasting at their downtown Salt Lake location.
All of these Millcreek Rotarians made it to the social event, Thursday, Feb. 23: Jason Collier, Ann Nielsen, Julia Wee, Kim Williams, Laura Rogers, Linda Book, Margareta Vlasic, Marlin Clark, Megan Dunn, Mustafa Celebi, Peter Ingle, Sandra Clark, Laurie Pisani, John & Judy Zone. Everybody brought guests, spouses, and potential members, so it was a substantial and very merry crowd. Annie Nielsen wins the 'bringing most potential members' award with three guests! Two of which are signing up. Good job, Annie!

The next evening, five Millcreek Rotarians kept the good times alive by attending a Speed Mentoring Event with Salt Lake based Rotaract (college based Rotary Club). Under the skillful direction of Rotaract Club president Jerika Michel, our Millcreek Rotarians and five Sugar House Rotarians (along with a couple of spouses) answered questions about professional development, work place issues, mistakes we've made in our careers, and advice we'd give for getting off to a good start in employment.

The format was really good (2-3 Rotarians at a table talking with 2 Rotaracters for about 8 minutes before rotating tables. The questions the college students from all over the valley asked were thoughtful and thought provoking, and it was also interesting to hear other Rotarians talk about their work lives.

This was a terrific vocational service project, and we hope we have another chance at Speed Mentoring!
