Our January 19th Chartering Dinner Marks a Milestone:


Minutes of our January 12 business meeting

In attendance: Alan Andersen, Loralee Barlow, Susan Brown, Mustafa Celebi, Marlin Clark, Megan Dunn, Peter Ingle, Miriam Kramer, Susan Marks, Annie Nielsen, Laurie Summers-Pisani, Laura Rogers, Julia Wee, Sonia Woodbury, John Zone, Judy Zone

Plans for Chartering Dinner: Thursday, Jan. 19, 6:15pm at the Cottonwood Club.

  1. All club members should arrive around 5:45pm for a run through of our ‘pinning’ ceremony.
  2. Rotaracters will be calling District leadership to attend and will arrive at 5:45pm to set up check-in/payment table.
  3. $20 per member, $25 per guest. RSVP immediately megan@xmission.com
  4. Christine will do name tags based on rsvps.
  5. Laurie will do the Commemorative Program for the evening, and has secured a pianist for background music during the social hour.
  6. Peter has found a Buddhist monk in Layton who will do our invocation, but as this blog is posted, we still need someone to pick him up and bring him to the event.
  7. Megan is looking into an ROTC color guard, or we need someone to sing the National Anthem or America the Beautiful.
  8. Judy will welcome everyone, thank everyone, recognize District leadership in attendance, ask Rotaracters and Interactors to stand, review the Program, present the gong and start the proceedings.
  9. District Governor Rick Cambra has 10 minutes for remarks, and then will present Charter members with our Rotary pins.
  10. Sugar House Rotary President Ennis Gibbs, of our sponsoring club, will present a gift, and has 3-5 minutes for remarks.
  11. Charter President Megan Dunn will make closing remarks and thank yous.
Upcoming Events:

  1. Don’t forget to save all pull off tops from cans (soda, beer, soup, etc.) to give to our Interactors for a fundraiser they are doing.
  2. Miriam, Laura, Laurie are working with Bhutanese women to plan literacy lessons, computer training. Stay tuned for information about our January service project (sometime the end of this month).
    • Peter has suggested that we might interface with ESL instructors at Westminster for help in communicating.
  3. We will partner with Salt Lake based Rotaract for a Speed Mentoring Event in mid-March, date TBA.
    • Millcreek Rotarians will be asked to outline their career activities in a brief bulleted way.
  4. Also, Rotaracters are holding a Central American Dinner Fundraiser and Auction-- Friday, February 24th at 7:00 pm Delicious Central American food made by Rotaractors. The funds will support our local and international service projects. We will also be auctioning off our skills and talents. For example, a photo shoot, piano lessons, tutoring, etc…
  5. Sugar House Rotary Club (our sponsoring club) hosts the Chili Open Dinner at the Grand America Friday, January 27, silent auction starts at 5pm. $75 p/p raises funds for local charities. Ask Megan megan@xmission.com for more information.

Next business meeting: Thursday, Feb. 2, 5:15pm. Location TBA, but maybe the Youthlinc office!
