April 5 Meeting Minutes - Cafe Madrid (our new location)

Our new location for business meetings is Cafe Madrid - the food and service were impeccable.

We started the meeting by welcoming two guests. 17 members attended.

Meeting agenda:

Agenda Item 1: Parks Grant discussion - Laurie Pisani brought up the Parks Grant and a good discussion started on whether to work with other rotaries to place a bench on the Jordan River Parkway. A financial contribution is the focus for this project, plus a day of service.

RCMC asked for other options. Laurie shared an idea to create a small biking area for children – an area where they can ride and learn traffic signals.

Other options include creating a park for handicapped children.

Judy thought we should ask members to vote via e-mail. Our first decision is whether we want to do a project on our own or whether we want to join other rotaries like option 1 above. The second decision is deciding on the project. All in attendance agreed to ensure we get everyone to vote so we represent our club and what the majority wants to do for a Park Grant project.

Action required by you: Megan will send an e-mail and blog vote – watch for this. This is your club, please participate.
Agenda Item 2: Community service projects – Miriam updated on last weeks’ meeting. We will be sending out a doodle for you to vote when you can attend a vision and strategy retreat session for Rotary Club of Millcreek.
Our upcoming projects are:
  • April 21 - tutoring with Bhutanese community – 4:30-6:30. Come for half an hour or the entire time. WE NEED YOU!
  • May 26 - gardening day. The rotaractors and the Interactors are meeting at the refugee gardens. We will all garden together.
  • June 21 we are going to sponsor the Bhutanese community in their booth at International Refugee Day.
More detail will follow on all service projects. Action required by you - add the service dates above to your calendar and join us in our community!
Agenda Item 3 - Mentoring – Laura gave an update. We still have 12 Rotaractors that need a mentor. She sent a list on April 4. Please review the list and volunteer to mentor. You do NOT need to be aligned by career or education. Action required by you: Review Laura's e-mail from April 4 and volunteer to be a mentor.
Agenda Item 4: Susan Marks - Rotary Learning. Susan shared great tips for Rotary members to get the most out of our Club:
  • Wear your rotary pin everyday – great ice breaker
  • Attend at least 60% of all meetings (Rotary International suggestion). The point is to build friendships and get members active in their club
  • If you can’t make our meeting- attend another club meeting. Check out the Utah Rotary website www.utahrotary.org, Click Learn about Utah Rotary, and click the contact or club website link to the right.
  • Pay your club invoice promptly
  • Chair a committee
  • Propose a service project or fundraiser
  • Bring family and friends to meeting or project
  • Propose people for membership
Upcoming agenda items for April 12:
  • Fundraisers (please bring ideas)
  • Summer Social - Annie
Sergeant at Arms - John Zone -
  • Fined himself and Judy $10 for missing meeting for being out of town
